Biography
Dr. Shashi Kant Tiwari obtained his Ph.D. (Biological Sciences), from Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), New Delhi, India and Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR), Lucknow, India in 2015. During doctoral research program, he extensively worked on cellular and molecular mechanisms of environmental toxicants mediated neurodevelopmental as well as neurodegenerative disorders in both in vivo and in vitro model system. In addition, he also found that nanotized curcumin and an anti-epileptic drug enhances the pool of endogenous neural stem cells (NSCs) and activating signals that instruct these stem cells to generate new neurons during neurodegenerative conditions. Before joining his PhD program, Dr. Tiwari received Junior Research Fellowship/National Eligibility Test (CSIR-UGC-JRF/NET), Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) by Govt. of India in 2008. After PhD, he joined as Post-Doctoral Fellow in Department of Pediatrics, University of California, San Diego, USA. His research activities examine how NSCs respond to the cues such as environmental toxicants, drugs, pathogens (Zika and HIV) and various neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. The current research focuses of Dr. Tiwari are on investigating the viral mediated neuronal injury in human embryonic stem cell (hESCs)/ human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) derived 2D neurons, astrocytes, microglia and 3D brain organoid model system. Besides these, Dr. Tiwari’s work is also focusing on the role of RNA epitranscriptomic modifications in neurological disorders. He has over 20 National and International publications, abstracts Indexed in 5 International conferences. He is also an editorial board member of various reputed journals.
