Biography
Efrat Received M.Sc. and Ph.D. from The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. Was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biochemistry followed by assistant research scientist in the Department of Pathology, both at New York University School of Medicine, New York, New York. Currently is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Pharmacology, New York University School of Medicine, New York, New York and in the Center for Dementia Research, Nathan S. Kline Institute, Orangeburg, New York.
Research Interest
Efrat′s Research interests are treatment targets for Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. The focus is on discovering genetic mutations and allelic variations involved in hereditary forms of amyloidoses; characterizing the regulation of amyloid precursor proteins processing; defining processes involved in the conversion of soluble protein to the insoluble, oligomeric and fibrillar forms; identifying factors that inhibit oligomerization and fertilization of amyloid proteins; and identifying factors that prevent disease-driven neurodegeneration
